I spent 30 years of my career as a writer and editor, starting in small newspapers and culminating as founding Editor-in-Chief of WebMD. Since leaving WebMD in 2001, I’ve been a media consultant and freelance editor. I’m currently Poetry Series Editor at Press 53, Winston-Salem, NC, and I’m working toward my Ph.D. in English here at GSU.
Elegy is the topic of my dissertation. I’m investigating specific tropes used by elegists over the history of elegy, starting with the Hellenistic Greek period, ending with contemporary elegy, to see how the tropes have evolved over literary periods.
As a journalist, I have written and edited numerous magazine and web articles mostly in the areas of technology and medicine. As a creative writer, I have written and published a series of nonfiction essays, two poetry collections, and I have published 40 individual poems in various literary journals. As a poetry editor, I have compiled and edited the anthology After Shocks: The Poetry of Recovery for Life-Shattering Events (Winston-Salem: Press 53) 2008. As the poetry series editor of Press 53, I have selected and edited more than 25 collections of poetry.
