Joanmarie Bañez completed her B.A. in English with a minor in Spanish at Georgia State University in 2017 and is currently a second-year master’s student in literary studies. Joanmarie is a tutor at the GSU Writing Studio, a member of the New Voices planning committee, and a former tour guide at GSU’s Welcome Center. After living in Málaga, Spain for six months as an exchange student through Georgia State’s study abroad program, she encourages her students to consider participating in language immersion programs. Her research examines spatial rhetoric and the relationship between trauma and travel in contemporary Indigenous literature.
