In a former life, LaRue Cook was a Senior Editor at ESPN The Magazine and ESPN.com before retreating south to pursue his Ph.D. in creative writing at Georgia State. He also drives for Uber and Lyft in Atlanta, and his essay collection, Man in the (Rearview) Mirror, is forthcoming from Woodhall Press in 2019. His short stories have appeared in Washington Square Review, Barely South Review, and Noctua Review, among other places. His crowning achievement, though, was being published in Reader’s Digest so that his granny can say she has a grandson who’s been published in Reader’s Digest.
